In the year 2000, several of the international chambers of commerce in Indonesia came together as an informal group (the International Business Forum) to discuss issues common to foreign investors in Indonesia. The aim was to present a stronger, more unified lobbying voice to the Government of Indonesia.

This informal grouping has now become a more formal organization, better able to organize itself and communicate with member chambers. It is now known as the International Business Chamber, and shares a secretariat with the American Chamber of Commerce.

The IBC works on two levels. At the highest level, the Board of the IBC discusses critical policy issues with senior government officials. They have met with the President of the Republic of Indonesia as well as several Ministers and leaders of the House of Representatives (DPR).

On another level, the IBC has committees responsible for each of the areas most important to foreign investors. These committees have regular meetings and are particularly active in presenting concerns of investors when the government is drafting new regulations. Each committee is hosted by one of the member national chambers.
